Jonathan and Amy Chin

Jonathan and Amy’s vision for ministry, strengthened by Ephesians 3:16-19, is to spread Life, in the depth, width, and height of Christ’s love. Jonathan serves as a maintenance specialist, utilizing the skills and talents of his hands to physically bring that Life and Christ’s love into the areas where he serves around the world and here at home.

Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Jonathan came to know Jesus as His personal Savior because of the care and interest a Bible teacher showed him at Perry Hall Christian School.  During a church mission’s conference, he felt the call to vocational ministry.  He was unsure how to serve until a close friend challenged him to use the mechanical abilities God had given him.  This led him to study at Moody Bible Institute, in the field of mission aviation, where he not only honed his skills as an aviation mechanic, but also learned more about MAF.

After graduation, Jonathan worked in motorsports, using his comprehensive technical training on and off the track.  As both a blessing and a challenge, he came face to face with living out his life verse, 1 Peter 2:16-17 – learning to use his freedom in Christ to serve and demonstrate Christ’s love, while respecting those around him.  Jonathan loves using his mechanical and management abilities to advance the frontline work God is doing around the globe.

After returning from Indonesia in 2018, Jonathan motivated to bring stronger unity, clarity, and alignment worldwide began studying leadership and organizational dynamics at Regent University, where he continues to learn leadership and strategic foresight principles, useful for missional planning in today’s dynamic environment. He continues to use these skills in consultation with varying peer groups internally and externally of the ministry as well as his technical skills, supporting major projects worldwide as individual needs emerge.

Amy was born into a family with a history of full-time missions - her parents, Terry & Cheri Heffield, and grandparents, Wilfred & Ruth Hart, have served as missionaries.  Amy was born and raised in Waxhaw, NC, where her parents serve with JAARS, the aviation and radio arm of Wycliffe Bible Translators.  As a child, Amy felt called to overseas ministry.  She began to seriously pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus when she was a freshman in high school.  After a short-term missions trip to Romania, she finally said, “Yes, Lord – send me!”  It was also during this trip that Isaiah 61:1 became a call on her life.  Attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, she trained for overseas ministry.  While there, she met Jonathan.  Realizing they both were passionate about missions, they married and were later blessed with their son, Ethan and daughter Elliana.

God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways.  He may also be calling you to a special role in the Chins’ ministry.  Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
