Beth Fennema

Beth and Dakotah FennemaBeth Fennema, with her daughter, Dakotah, is excited to serve with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Lesotho, Africa. Beth will use her gift of teaching to educate the children of missionaries at Kingdom Christian Academy, a school she helped launch in 2014. Beth will teach elementary students as well as continue to develop a curriculum and program that meets the needs of the students.

Beth was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and grew up in a home in which her parents were very intentional about living out their faith. Having been immersed in Christian teaching at home, church and school from a very young age, Beth cannot recall a time when she did not know Jesus as her Savior.

Following high school, Beth attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids. Near the end of her senior year, Beth remembers feeling a mixture of eagerness and yet apprehension of what life would be like after graduation. It was during that time that she began to understand her need for Jesus to be Lord of her life as well. Beth began asking God to show her His will for her life, and He did!

After earning her degree in elementary education, Beth went to teach at the Christian Academy of Japan, an MK school in Tokyo, for 17 years. Her stateside teaching experience includes 2 years at Mustard Seed School in Hoboken, New Jersey and almost 10 years at Ontario Christian School in California. The Lord brought Dakotah into Beth’s life through foster care in 2011, and she was overjoyed to adopt her in 2013.

God introduced the idea of missions to Beth in a creative way. Beth shares, “Ironically enough, I was introduced to missions through missionary kids. In the town where I grew up, there was a house where missionaries from our church denomination could live while they were on furlough. Many of these families had children who I would get to know at church and school. I had never been on a plane and was fascinated (and a bit jealous) by the fact that these kids were able to fly to and live in such faraway places!” God used these early interactions to stir in her heart a desire to serve Him overseas.

Colossians 1:9-10 is one of Beth’s favorite Scriptures. “We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” Beth shares, “No matter where I live or what I do, this is my prayer and desire of my heart.”

God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Beth’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with her through prayer and/or financial support.
