Countries around the world have closed their borders and taken other measures to combat COVID-19. But in many places, MAF staff remain to meet critical needs—like medevac flights.
In remote villages, MAF pilots are sharing information about COVID-19 to local people and helping them understand how they can protect themselves. Many of these places have limited access to information and the efforts of MAF staff are the only meaningful way local people can learn about the threat.
MAF has flown out aid workers and other missionaries who needed to return home and is delivering food and other necessities to those who have committed to stay.
This COVID-19 crisis has impacted MAF’s ministry in difficult ways. In some areas, authorities are restricting all air transportation or only allowing transport of cargo, not passengers. In other places, the withdrawal of foreign missionaries and aid workers—who help share the cost of MAF services in remote areas—will significantly impact our finances. The initial expected shortfall—which we are estimating could reach $2.5 million—will certainly disrupt MAF’s operations.
Overcoming the Challenge Together
Under normal circumstances, MAF is a lifeline to people living and serving in remote places—that is especially the case now. Often when needs or requests arise, they come at a moment’s notice. MAF’s readiness depends on our local staff who schedule flights, load planes, and assist in other critical ways. MAF is working to keep these teammates employed through the duration of this crisis—but we cannot do that without the help of people like you!
You can help change the financial challenges facing MAF by giving today. Your gift will help MAF be there for isolated people during this uncertain time. By giving to MAF, you are helping to share the love of Jesus Christ with isolated people living around the world.
